My Adobe Photoshop Art

Ah, Adobe Photoshop, the most popular software for all that is 2D. I believe I've been using it since '99 or 2000, almost a decade. But it was until 2005 that I started going hardcore and focusing on interpreting my artistic abilities through it.

15. Wanderer

Date: 10/31/07

Ramblings: Right now I feel as if I'm wandering. I've been experiencing so many new things, both good and bad, that at times I feel as if everything's lost control. As if everything's moving so fast that my sense of security is shaken.

14. Long Hair

Date: 9/5/07

Ramblings: I don't know. I was bored at work and felt like drawing something, and this is the result: a woman with randomness around her. I drew it with my pen tablet.

13. Boredom

Date: 3/22/07

Ramblings: A visual representation of how I feel at work - very very booored.

Reflection insert (3/22/07): Eh, screw these studies. I've known Photoshop inside out already for years now. And I definitely feel I can sufficiently interpret my artistic abilities through it by now. Hence from now on, I'm just going to draw whatever with no particular emphasis on certain features.

12. Brush/Masking Study - "By the Fire of Might!"

Date: 2/9/07

Features used: Quick mask, various brushes, eraser, clipping mask, gaussian blur, blending modes, inner glow, opacity, color overlay, stroke, hue/saturation, shapes, gradient, type, levels

3rd party filters: [Eye Candy 4000] corona; [Xenofex 2] electrify, lightning

Ramblings: Is there a super hero power you desire? I'd like to create and manipulate electricity. And with that fascination I created this. I attempted to make it comic book-ish. I think it came out awesome! I love the last part with the beam of light shining down. I got good human-editing practice with this study. The 'story' is just supposed to be me conjuring the lightning power. I'm really liking this; I think I'd like to pursue this lightning alter ego of mine.

11. Pen Tablet Study - "Complications"

Date: 2/7/07

Features used: Various brushes, eraser, gaussian blur, blending modes, opacity, bevel

Ramblings: This is my first dedicated drawing with my new pen tablet (lets you draw on the computer). Heh, despite how dark and angry it looks, it's not a reflection of how I'm feeling right now. I just felt like drawing something dark and angry. Doesn't it look real? Drawing with Photoshop's brush makes it look like a scanned pen drawing. I got good practice with this study. I learned that when doing shadows it's good to stick with a brush with 20-50% opacity so that you have greater control over the end result of the shadow.

10. General Study - "Alter Egos"

Date: 1/1/07

Features used: Quick mask, various brushes, eraser, clipping mask, gaussian blur, blending modes, inner glow, gradient overlay, opacity, hue/saturation, custom shapes

Ramblings: Woah, it's been a while. I did a collage for a friend. I thought I'd go full throttle with it and turn it into a study. This is supposed to be my friends alter egos. One's good, one's bad, and one's neutral. I downloaded a zip with 116 Photoshop brushes and used some of them here. I think I've improved quit a bit since my previous studies. I'd say I'm pretty comfortable with brushes now.

9. Brush Study - "A Thing in Water"

Date: 12/18/05

Features used: Various brushes, eraser, clipping mask, gaussian blur, blending modes, outer glow, gradient overlay, opacity, motion blur

Ramblings: I felt like working with brushes again, but this time I wanted to work on something with detail. I ended up coming up with this. It's a fuzzy thing with spider-like legs and antlers, swimming in water. It's looking at you, it likes you.

8. Ink Splatter Study - "Guy"

Date: 12/14/05

Features used: Various brushes, eraser, blending modes, halftone filter, feather, saturation

Ramblings: Woah, it's been a while. So ink splatters are a popular thing nowadays with art and design. This is my first time experimenting with the style. I downloaded a bundle of ink splatter brushes from somewhere and went buck wild over a picture of me. Just note that the red isn't meant to be blood. I chose red because it's a color I haven't worked with yet in my studies.

7. Tracing Study - "Ice Goddess"

Date: 5/22/05

Features used: Various brushes, eraser, opacity, pattern fill

Source image: Photo of woman

Ramblings: Experimented with the various brushes to create a different interpretation of the woman. I emphasized on combining brushes to create some unique effects.

6. Brush Study - "Abstract 1"

Date: 5/22/05

Features used: Various brushes, eraser, opacity, blending modes

Ramblings: Just doing whatever. Experimenting with the effects of various brushes and blending modes. I've been going the wrong direction with my previous Photoshop works, because with this one I'm actually pleased with it.

Reflection insert (1/7/06): After looking at my Photoshop art so far, at this point I see a major difference in my direction. When I first started my Photoshop studies I was approaching Photoshop as I would with Illustrator. Those are two very different programs. However in time I did get the hang of it and grew accustomed to the drawing style Photoshop calls for.

5. Brush Study - "Forest"

Date: 5/10/05

Features used: Various brushes, opacity, gradients, gaussian blur, eraser

Ramblings: It looks like I blurred the whole thing. :( Only the mountains and clouds are blurred. Next time I need to use a sharper brush for creating trees.

4. Brush Study - "Plant"

Date: 2/23/05

Features used: Various brushes, opacity, blending modes, gradients, layer mask, blur tool

Ramblings: Attempted to draw an extravagant flower, but I ended up going more toward an alien-plant tentacle mayhem path.

3. Brush Study - "Virus"

Date: 2/23/05

Features used: Various brushes, opacity, blending modes, gradients, layer mask, radial blur

Ramblings: I attempted to draw some outer space type scene, but ended up with this.

2. Brush Study - "Merman"

Date: 2/23/05

Features used: Various brushes, opacity, blending modes, gradients, eraser

Ramblings: More experimenting with the non-default brushes. Attempted to draw a realistic figure, with no success, so I attempted to hide its poor quality appearance with the gradient.

1. Brush Study - "Ocean"

Date: 2/23/05

Features used: Various brushes, opacity, blending modes, gradients, motion blur

Ramblings: My first time experimenting with brushes other than the default brushes. Not necessarily my very first time, but the first time I go full throttle utilizing them.
